The Digboi refinery,commissioned in December 1901 is today India's oldest operating refinery. Over the time in 100 years, Digboi Refinery has undergone a transition from an age - old refinery to one with state-of-the-art technology comparable with any modern refinery.

Occupational Health and Safety, being two of the most important factors in today's industrial world,Digboi Refinery has set up and achieved the highest standards of both these factors, leading to it being accredited with Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) Certification.

Marketing of petroleum products was started as early as in 1902 by Assam Oil,when Kerosene from Digboi Refinery moved into the market, making it the pioneering petroleum marketing company of India. Assam Oil has been provid -ing service to the nation by meeting the requirements of the Defence Sector since time. In fact, it has the distinction of being the first to supply LPG to the Army Cookhouses, thereby contributing LPG for firewood, which earlier used for cooking purposes.
